Home for the homeless
In the city of Kuala Lumpur, like any other city in the world, there are people without a home. It does not only mean that they do not have a place to stay. It also includes being shunned by the greater society. The inability to attain privacy and security in their lives leaves them vulnerable. The world is filled with wonderful things, but it is also a scary place. There are real world problems that exist out there that target the vulnerable whilst remaining invisible to most. There is a whole city that exists out there, beyond the bricks and mortar. A bubble outside of the greater society that has been cast aside. Welcome to Kuala Lumpur, the city of the homeless. It exists parallel to the city that we all know. Invisible does not mean it is fiction. It is just a treatment by the human mind. “Out of sight, out of mind”.
Perhaps ‘homeless’ is not as accurate a description to fully capture the situation of these marginalized individuals. They are ‘the invisible’ and they are a part of the city and that will never change.

This is the first time that we are given the freedom to create our own design brief. It was a tough but challenging process that enabled me to further grow as a designer. The outcome of this semester is below my expectations, but I am looking forward to the coming one!
