PROJECT 1 : JOURNEY OF THE FIVE SENSES | MEMORIAL
For this first project, it was divided into two parts, Project 1a and 1b. Project 1a is finding two linear or concentric buildings from pre world war II and post war. As a group we chose the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York as our first precedence study. It is a post war building built in the 1950s and the architect was Frank Lloyd Wright.

For our second precedence study, we chose the Temple of Khonsu in Ancient Egypt built during the reign of King Ramses III. The temple is linear in form and deals with light to perform certain rituals. The temple is currently in ruins but a restored version shows the function of the building clearly.

For Project 1b, we are tasked with designing two memorials, one of each typology, a concentric and a linear one. The memorials are supposed to represent two different decades, the 2000s and the 2010s. That means one memorial of one typology has to commemorate a decade of choice.
For the concentric memorial, we chose to represent the decade of the 2010s. We placed it in the River of Life in Kuala Lumpur and it acts as a dam. It serves as a playground of sorts for people of all ages. The idea behind it is that each person, when entering the memorial can inhabit their own bubble whilst interacting with other people through gaps between the spaces. The concept refers to the phrase, "More can be achieved in a less space".

The second memorial, commemorating the 2000s, is following a linear typology. This memorial's concept is derived from the same idea as the first concentric design, except instead of 'more can be achieved in a less space', it is 'less can be achieved in a more space'. The memorial itself is tunnel-like and as one progresses through it, you are slowly revealed to the light from the exterior. It represents the long and slow moving of the decade that will eventually see drastic progress towards the end of the decade.
PROJECT II
For project 2, we are tasked with coming up with a concept for the third project, which is an interpretive visitor centre located in either Sungai Buloh or Batu Caves. I chose the Sungai Buloh site which is a Leprosy Centre and settlement. It was operational for the longest back in the day when leprosy was not curable yet. Within the huge settlement, I chose site B which is located at the Valley of Hope gallery and hall. The site is relatively open and the circulation is a major factor to be considered in the design process.
The site is located at the edge of the circulation and the current existing building are shophouses that are dilapidated. The shophouses are to be removed and replaced with our Visitor Interpretive Centre.
PROJECT III
The third project is basically a continuation of the second project. After coming up with a concept, we are to further progress in refining it into a realistic built form that puts into account of structure, materiality and spaces. The final outcome is as below;
